× All We Imagine As Light is an immersive experience in a world which explores and celebrates the lives of contemporary working-class Mumbai. Prabha is a head nurse at a hospital. She shares an apartment with Anu. Prabha’s husband, through an arranged marriage, is living and working in Germany, where he went soon after their wedding. Anu is having a secret affair with Shiaz, who is Muslim; she dare not let her strict Hindu family find out. Parvaty is a cook at the hospital, recently widowed and in danger of being evicted by developers who want to tear down the building she lives in. Written and directed by Payal Kapadia, the film invests the audience in the lives of the three women. The film is a soulful study of the transformative power of friendship and sisterhood, in all its complexities and richness.
